# Do Peptide Companies Test Every Batch? (The Honest Answer)

_Most peptide vendors do NOT test every batch — they test once and reuse the COA. Here's how batch testing really works and how to tell if your specific vial was tested._

> **Short answer: most don't.** Genuine per-batch testing is expensive, so many vendors test once (or rely on their supplier's single test) and show that **same COA** for everything after. Unless you can tie the certificate to *your* batch, "lab tested" often means "a batch was tested once," not "this vial was tested."

## How batch testing actually works

A "batch" (or lot) is one production run. True per-batch testing means each lot gets its own fresh analysis with its own COA and lot number. That's the gold standard — and it's costly, which is exactly why it's rare. The cheaper, common shortcut is [COA reuse](/articles/coa-reuse-and-theft.html): one good test stretched across many untested lots.

## How to tell if YOUR vial was tested

- **Lot number match:** does the lot on your physical vial match the lot on the COA? (Many vendors don't even print one.)

- **Recent, specific date:** a per-batch COA is recent and tied to that run — not a single document dated long ago and reused.

- **Portal verification:** the result resolves on the [lab's own portal](/articles/how-to-verify-a-coa.html), tied to that lot.

- **Independent blind testing:** the strongest proof — someone bought off-the-shelf and tested it, so the vendor couldn't cherry-pick the sample.

## The takeaway

"Do they test every batch?" is the right question to ask a vendor directly. An open, specific answer (with per-lot COAs you can verify) is a strong sign; a vague "everything is lab tested" usually means one test doing a lot of work.
